Ship a Car to Hawaii - Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I ship my vehicle from to get it to Hawaii?

There are only three ports in the U.S to get your vehicles into Hawaii. These ports are located in Oakland, California, Long Beach, California, and Seattle Washington.

How do I get my vehicle to one of the ocean ports to ship to Hawaii?

You can deliver the vehicle yourself, or have one of our auto transporters pick up at the city and state where the vehicle is located in.

What information do I need to provide to ship my vehicle to Hawaii?

Name, mailing address, and telephone numbers of the shipper and consignee. (The shipper is the person shipping the vehicle, the consignee is the person who is receiving the vehicle). You also need the following information to place a booking to Hawaii: year, make, model, license plate number, color, and VIN number.

How do I place an order to ship my vehicle to Hawaii?

Call one of our agents at 800-779-3329 and they will assist you with your booking order. All vehicles must have a booking number prior to arriving at the port of departure.

What do I need to do to get my vehicle ready for shipping to Hawaii?

All vehicles must have a clean exterior so a vehicle condition report can be conducted at the loading port. Vehicle must be in running condition with working brakes. Gas tank must contain only ¼ tank of gas or less, and have anti-freeze during the winter months. Cracked windshields or windows, damaged vehicles or dirty cars cannot be accepted for shipment to Hawaii. Bring the current vehicle registration, and keys for the ignition and all locks.

Can I ship anything inside of my vehicle to Hawaii?

No, the only items acceptable for shipping in your vehicle are those tools and accessories normally attached to the vehicle, or permanently installed in the dash, doors, deck, or console. A child car seat is acceptable.

How much gas should be in my vehicle when shipping it?

ONLY ¼ tank of gas. If the vehicle has more than a ¼ tank of gas the port will not accept the vehicle. In some cases the port will drain the fuel for an additional charge. U.S. Coast Guard regulation 176.905 requires that fuel tanks on all motor vehicles carried on a vessel may not be more than ¼ full.

How long does it take for my vehicle to get to Hawaii?

Once loaded onto the vessel the ocean time is approximately five days. Once the vessel arrives in Hawaii, the port takes an additional 7-10 days to unload all of the containers. All vehicles shipping to Hawaii go to the Port of Honolulu.  If your vehicle is going to another island, then your vehicle will be barged over to the destination port.  This can take up to an additional five days. Customer service at the destination port will call you when your vehicle is ready for pickup.

How long can I leave my vehicle at the port after it arrivals in Hawaii?

Once your vehicle arrives in Hawaii, customer service at the port of arrival will call you when your vehicle is ready for pickup. Each port varies in number of days and cost of storage.  Please see our schedule of port storage fees on our home page by clicking here.
